About Ryan

Ryan Buchanan is a remarkable young man. Ryan is a good student and an athlete who plays lacrosse and runs track. He is musically talented and plays several instruments, sings and writes music and add to that, is also bright and witty.  But, most of all, Ryan is a teenager who is brimming full of the light Jesus Christ for all to see.

The light of Christ has shined through his best times and his most difficult ones.  In late June of 2011, Ryan was with his friends from the Creekside Church High School Group at a beach near Santa Cruz. While digging a tunnel with a friend, the sand collapsed on him and he was without oxygen for about 15 minutes.  The result left Ryan in what doctor’s classified as a persistent vegetative state.

After over a month in the hospital, Ryan was released to the care of a wonderful facility, the George Mark Children’s House in San Leandro. There, slowly but surely, with the loving support of his mother, father, brother and friends, Ryan began showing signs of improvement. Please see his father Bret’s amazing daily journal on the “Ryan’s Miracle Watch” tab on this web site to follow Ryan and events in his family’s lives.

At the end of February of this year, Ryan was finally able to come home to be with his family.  The living situation is temporary and a complete new addition must be built to accommodate Ryan on a long term basis if he were to continue to remain in his present condition.  We ask that you join us in daily prayer for Ryan and his family. We would also appreciate your consideration of a gift to help with the considerable cost of construction for Ryan’s new room to meet his needs.  The Ryan Buchanan Trust was created to help with his ongoing needs and this web site is to help fund that trust through the generous donations of visitors like yourself.  Because the Trust is for the benefit of a single individual, it is not a tax exempt entity so, there are no tax deductions available for your donations.

Please spend some time on the web site, browse coming events, and enjoy Ryan’s pictures.  You can also see several stories that NBC Bay Area has done on Ryan by clicking the link here.  We thank each and every visitor for their support.
